Festival Producer : 2014-present (6 annual festivals)
The Mahbilil Festival is a celebration of culture and community in Jabiru, in the World Heritage national park of Kakadu.
During daylight hours, Mahbilil is a family friendly event crammed with activities, workshops for kids, rides, displays, Indigenous art exhibitions & demonstrations of grass weaving, painting and other crafts. Food features prominently with large traditional earth ovens cooking Buffalo, Barramundi and the speciality of the region, Magpie Goose. Local Bininj mob dance up local stories in the Gunborrk dance sessions.
From sunset the festival turns on an evening program of performance, music, projections and dance. The music is diverse and includes bands from Darwin and interstate as well as many Indigenous bands from across the region. Local photographers have their work projected large scale across purpose-built sculptures. People dance into the cool Kakadu night.
Roles & Responsibilities:
- Curate all Artistic Programming across multiple artforms
- Budget & Financial Management
- Secure Income – including applying/acquitting grants, brokering sponsorships, handling event income and cash flow.
- Coordinate Media, Marketing, Branding and Public engagaement strategies, both locally and nationally.
- Represent the Festival in the media
- Staff Recruitment
- All Reporting to community, partners and stakeholders.
